Plague Doctors were quite active in the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries, treating, but rarely {if ever} curing, contaminated/luckless individuals. These self-styled “doctors” wore elaborate costumes, often filling their masks with “aromatic items” to offset the (alleged) plague miasmas.
